NUGGET: It's true that drinking urine is used as a treatment in India to cure asthma, arthritis, allergies, acne, cancer, indigestion, migraines, wrinkles, and a host of other conditions.
A country where water is so scarce, people dying of dehydration, heat exhaustion, thirst is common. While some survivals resort to drinking urine, to pass this legend to the descendent of theirs that consuming urine is SAFE...
Under some caution and certain conditions, it is deemed safe to drink your own urine.
Evidence for the Health Claim
But do you know that use of urine can be used as medical substance in other well-hydrated individuals in 1st or 2nd World Country ?
It all went back to the ancient cultural and medical practices in countries like Egypt, China, India, and the Aztec empire, their physician consider drinking urine—one’s own or someone else’s—as a treatment or cure for a variety of ailments. They call it the self cure practices. Human body is well-known for own recovery of eye corrections, skin and body repair.
Today. there are many of medical practices in the teachings of Ayurveda that allow urine consumptions.
Ayurveda, the ancient holistic healing system of India, is grounded in a spiritual view of life. Its practitioners have advocated urine therapy as a treatment for asthma, arthritis, allergies, acne, cancer, indigestion, migraines, wrinkles, and a host of other conditions.
Even though, there is no medical evidence supporting and backing this urine drinking practice as an effective treatment for any of these (or other) illnesses, scientific studies have shown that some components of urine have medicinal properties.
Most notably, urea (comprises 2% of our urine) contain some antiviral, antifungal, and antibacterial characteristics. And currently some research is on the way to investigate the potential of other urinary substances to treat infertility and specific forms of cancer.
While drinking urine has the properties to recover and cure have yet to be confirmed by further research, drinking in small quantity ( if you do drink it now ), is unlikely to produce serious harm.
Evidence Against the Claim
Although sipping urine may not be immediately harmful, it should not be forgotten that urine can also contain harmful ( not dangerous ) substances in those who have taken drugs—legal or otherwise—or have been exposed to chemical residues in the environment.
Also, if a person were to drink his own urine as a substitute for fresh drinking water, the proportion of water content would rapidly decrease as the proportion of harmful waste products increased. It means, after a few cycle of drinking urine, the urine may become toxic as the the water contain reduces.
Urine therapy advocates who tout urine’s healing properties point to the fact that urine contains vitamins, hormones, proteins, and other constituents generally accepted as beneficial. However, detractors point out that the body’s process of elimination is more than merely efficient, ridding itself of what it can’t store. Rather, the kidneys diligently retain what is useful and dispose of everything else deemed dispensable.
Even urine therapy advocates warn of the dangers of excessive urine consumption. During a worldwide conference of urine therapy practitioners, the Chinese Association of Urine Therapy warned that drinking urine has negative side effects, including diarrhea, fatigue, fever, and muscle soreness; and these symptoms increase with the amount of urine ingested.
Conclusion
Because urine is primarily water, drinking it in small amounts is probably harmless unless you’ve been exposed to medications or environmental toxins that your body is desperately trying to eliminate. When faced with life-threatening dehydration, drinking urine may make some sense, since the temporary benefits are likely to outweigh the risks. However, this last ditch effort will be short-lived, since the kidneys stop making urine as the dehydration worsens.
Wow! This is the first time I heard that urine can make a good anti-wrinkle product. But No way I will ever use it. It's a waste product so why take it back? LOL
